Solar PV Fault Finding & Maintenance Guide
Identify faults, decode error codes, and maintain your system efficiently.
CRITICAL SAFETY WARNING
SOLAR PV SYSTEMS GENERATE LETHAL HIGH-VOLTAGE DC ELECTRICITY (UP TO 1000V).
- VISUAL EXAMINATION ONLY: Never attempt to remove inverter covers, unscrew terminals, or touch exposed cables.
- DO NOT TOUCH: Damaged cables, wet isolators, or burnt connectors.
- RISK OF ARCING: DC electricity can arc (jump) through the air. Keep your distance from damaged equipment.
This guide is for diagnostic purposes (reading screens/lights) only. If you suspect a hardware fault, STOP and contact a professional immediately.
1. Check Generation Meter
Located near fuse box.
2. Check Inverter Display
Located in loft/garage.
3. Check Bills
Verify reading consistency.

Diagnostic FAQs
Need Help?
Tell us the inverter make, model and the exact fault code on the screen (photo helps). Generic five-step resets are unsafe to follow blindly — DC isolators and sequences differ. SolaX: use the power-cycle sequence in your SolaX user manual for that model (AC off → DC off → wait → DC on → AC on) only after noting the code. Fox ESS: follow the Fox ESS user manual restart for your model; keep the fault code. Growatt: follow the Growatt OEM restart in the manual for your series. If the code returns, stop and book a diagnostic — we diagnose and replace; we do not leave unsafe DIY work mid-sequence.
